A business is nothing without the people that hold it together, and at LinkNow Media we have a lot of glue! It’s always fun to get insight into what someone’s day at work might be like, especially when they are doing a different job than you. So, we put the word out and received some great responses!

The Work Day

The way Holly starts her day depends entirely on the mood of her ginger polydactyl cat Sir Ralph Meowington the Third. If he’s especially needy he’ll have woken her up multiple times throughout the night and will have settled just in time for her alarm to go off in the morning. Because of this, she sets one for 6 a.m. and another for 7 a.m.

If Ralph is good, she’s able to get up early and do some freelance art, event planning or social media work for one of her personal projects, or even get in a workout if she’s not too swamped/lazy.

Once she has a smoothie, feeds Ralph and does her hair and makeup, she’s out the door for 8 a.m. to take the Metro across the city from the Plateau area to work—fingers crossed every time that the train isn’t too packed so she’s not rushing in late.

At work, she does her best to avoid the energy drinks in the vending machine. Being the only vegan in the office, at least not much else in there is able to tempt her! Not to say she doesn’t snack pretty much constantly throughout the day. Her desk is always littered with chips, dates and other fruit.

When she’s settled at her desk, music is one of the most important things to get right. She likes to listen to future synthpop, witch house, or dark drum and bass to get her energy up, or ‘80s goth rock like Sisters of Mercy and The Cure if she’s writing something where lyrics won’t interfere.

Content writing is all about the vibe you get going in your own head, and if you get it right, you can get a lot done!

Holly is a complete workaholic and loves the work she does. The only thing that could really ruin her day is when she gets interrupted for a long period of time and can’t keep churning out her 10 pages per day. Fire drills and power outages are the worst!

The Support System

The first day Holly started at LinkNow Media, she requested that she not take a 45 minute lunch, so she only takes two 15 minute breaks throughout the day—sometimes only one if she’s really into her writing. At times one of these breaks turns into a power nap if the content topics are headache-inducing!

Being a socially awkward workaholic hasn’t left much time for getting to know people at work, yet still one of Holly’s favourite things about working at LinkNow Media is her bosses and the positive vibe of all of her co-workers.

It’s no joke when everyone raves about the workplace culture at LinkNow Media—it’s truly the best there is!

In Closing

When asked if she’d like to add anything else, Holly was glued to her computer and unable to comment.

Holly’s three keys for success as a Content Writer

    1. Listen to music that energizes and inspires you while working. 2. Stay hydrated (she swears by three litres a day). 3. Don’t get distracted. If you find yourself doing so, take a walk and come back.
